Sweet Tea Sundays: 22 July, 2018

Hey, y’all!
Welcome to another edition of the Sweet Tea Sundays series. I’ve got all the links you need to unwind after a hectic week. Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean the weeks aren’t busy! Between dogsitting for my family and having a couple of engagements this week, I’m lucky to have found the time to do anything. Fortunately I have a 3-day weekend, so I’ll be doing some self-care in the form of brunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday this afternoon with some friends. Follow me on Instagram to see where we end up! You can never have enough brunch recommendations, I always say.
Next week is going to be another busy one, so let’s take the time this Sunday to relax, take a deep breath, and learn something new. Got your sweet tea? Good. Let’s go.
On the Web
I’m a huge kombucha fan. Who doesn’t love fizzy tea that tastes like soda and helps your gut health? But did you know some artisanal kombucha brewers are turning it into beer? Check out this article to see which national brands can give you good bacteria with a buzz.
This Thai Chili Corn Salad from Fit Foodie Finds looks gorgeous! The best plate is a plate full of color, and this brings you all the vibrancy you need to stay healthy. It’d be easy to sub fresh corn with canned, but using the best ingredients always leads to the best taste!
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a vegan dish outside of rice at most Mexican restaurants. So what’s with the sudden boom in vegan tacos from Mexican-run taco trucks in LA? The answer is a surprising mix of culture and history – it turns out you don’t even need the carne to make your tacos taste authentic.
On Spotify
I listened to some throwbacks this week in my quest to listen to an album a day for a year. My favorite was Monkey Business from the Black Eyed Peas. I mean, c’mon: “My Humps?” “My Style?” “Pump It???” I C O N I C.
Another throwback, all the way back from 1996, was Spice from the Spice Girls. Again, how can you go wrong with a good “Wannabe” jam session??
If you’re into Greek culture or just damn good pop music, don’t sleep on Eleni Foureira. She represented Cyprus in this year’s Eurovision, and she’s basically Greek JLo. Her dance moves are iconic, her beats are on fire, and her energy is infectious. Check out Anemos Agapis for some BOPS!
Around Town
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am SO excited for the upcoming Louisville Burger Week! Modeled after the crazy successful Lexington Burger Week that I loved while I was in college, the Louisville edition’s second year kicks off this Monday. I went to the passport kickoff party at Goodwood Brewing this past Wednesday, but if you missed that you can find a list of all the participating locations here. Get ready for some creative $5 burgers, y’all!
I have a new favorite restaurant to obsess over, and it’s 4 Seasons on the J-Town/Fern Creek border. If you’ve ever been curious about Bulgarian food (I know, it’s something you think about literally all the time, I get you), this is the place to go. It’s fairly similar to Greek food, but with some twists that make it distinctly Bulgarian. I’ll do a #LocalFoodieFriday post on it soon, but trust me when I say you need to check it out!
